The problem is to engage all the students in the same topic at the same time. Is that so? I knew it! A classroom is full of students with different personalities and abilities. Every student has his or her own talent to succeed in life, but it doesn’t mean that the topic you are teaching cannot catch their attention.
Every topic of every subject is important for every student. As a teacher you must be able to engage all of them and make that topic interesting.
Ways to engage the students:
There are many ways to engage the students in the classroom and I will tell you some of them to make your teaching easier.
Meaningful Activities:
According to research, a student is happy to learn that thing which seems to him worthy. For this, you must tell them that how much this activity is useful to you in your real life. After this, a student will become more curious to know it and learn it properly. Keep in mind that in front of you, there are students of every type so, you should engage all of them by giving some general useful reasons.
Focus on every student:
Do you believe in favoritism? Well, this is a word every student is aware of. If they are not getting much attention of the teacher, then the only thing which kick their minds is that the teacher always do favoritism. As a teacher, you must focus on each and every student in your class. You never know, that average student sitting on the last bench may have hidden abilities and only your little attention can make him bright. If while teaching you pay attention on every student, call them by their names, listen to their problems then they will also hear your lectures. Try this for sure and you will get results.
Group learning:
It is found that students learning collaboratively is more effective. Make a group of two or more people and ask them to do any activity or ask them to understand the topic themselves first. You will see that by communicating with each other they will come up with many ideas and new things. In this way, they will find the topic interesting and after words, listen to you very attentively to understand that topic.
Create Interest:
It is important to create interest about the topic before teaching. How you can do this? Tell your students to hear the topic carefully and then after the lecture, ask them to write the review about your teaching and that topic. Every student describes you and your way of teaching in a different way. Read their reviews carefully and try to improve yourselves. This will help you in three things, you can catch the student’s attention, will know the mentality of every student and will help you to adopt that style of teaching which is suitable to everyone.
It is not a difficult thing to engage your students, you just had to apply these tips to make the environment of the class healthy, meaningful and learning.
