Declaration of Independence is a document written by Thomas Jefferson in 1776. Jefferson was part of a committee assigned by Congress to write this declaration, which would be sent to the king and parliament putting England on notice that the American states would no longer be governed as British colonies. The Declaration of Independence was the first formal statement by a nation’s people asserting their right to choose their own government.
